In the moments of war that ravage Gaza, pregnant women endure indescribable pain. They not only bear the weight of pregnancy alone but also carry the burden of fear, panic, and traumas that may affect their unborn babies. There are pregnant women who have lost their babies before they could see the light due to harsh conditions and continuous shelling that obstructs the arrival of medical aid and necessary care. These women witness terrifying and painful moments in war, where fear lurks in every corner. Yet, they continue to hold onto hope that their children will live a safe and healthy life, enduring despite the unforgettable pain they experience.
What we have witnessed in Gaza over the past month is one of the worst humanitarian crises in the region’s history. With the situation continuing to deteriorate, pregnant women and their children face unimaginable health and safety challenges, including displacement, resource scarcity, malnutrition, lack of hygiene, and limited access to essential healthcare services. Doctors fear they could become ‘victims of this war.
According to the Ministry of Health data, as of November 10, 3,027 women and 4,506 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip, representing about 67% of the total casualties, while thousands have been injured. This means that 420 children have been killed or injured daily since October 7, some of them just a few months or even days old.
